TOLEDO JUNIOR CELTICS
The Toledo Junior Celtics began in 2012 as a combined side with the Down River Sharks before establishing themselves as an independent club in 2013, quickly earning success with a trip to the state semifinals in their first official season. Competing primarily in Division 2 of Rugby Ohio, the program grew steadily in numbers and talent, moving home games to Woodward High School in 2016 and producing standout players like Ashawnty Staples (Rugby Ohio Player of the Year, 2019). Over the years, the Juniors have achieved multiple playoff runs, including a state runner-up finish in 2019, a state championship in 2021, and consistent representation on Ohio All-Star sides. Despite challenges from COVID in 2020 and rebuilding years that followed, the club has continued to thrive, regularly fielding both varsity and JV squads, sending numerous athletes on to play collegiate rugby, and in 2025, fielding over 40 players for the first time in program history.
